BART is purchasing new cars, with a final vote approving their design on May 22, 2014. The new cars have LOTS of accessibility issues for people of varying abilities, parents with strollers, travelers with suitcases, seniors, etc.
Contact BART, and write a letter to the editor to let other people know what needs to change and why and call them to action!
LETTER TO THE EDITOR TIPS AND SUBMISSION INFO:
Pick ONE POINT you want to make, and say it in your FIRST SENTENCE.
Ex.: “Current BART cars accommodate multiple wheelchair users, as well as others like parents with strollers and travelers with suitcases, but this isn’t true in the new cars – the pole in the doors of the new design must be removed.”
Include a CALL TO ACTION:
Contact BART’s New Train Car Project at http://www.bart.gov/about/projects/cars/contact and tell them ________.
((repeat your point here. Ex. “to remove the pole from the doors of the new cars to make it more accessible for everyone.”))
BART is one of the most accessible public transit systems in the world for people of many abilities and needs – for everyone’s good, the new cars should be more accessible, not less!
Shorter = more likely to be published! Remember to make your letter RELATABLE, tell people WHY THEY SHOULD CARE, and include a CALL TO ACTION.
